Rudder Construction

Rudder Construction

Small Rudder

This article details how to build rudders for your vessel.  A few simple hand tools & supplies are all that's required: a jig saw(or bandsaw), a drill (or drill press), a dremel tool, pliers, 1/8" brazing rod, scrap plywood & some paint.

1.  Cut out a full sized pattern for your rudder from your plans, glue it to your scrap plywood, and drill a 1/8" diameter through it.

2.  With a dremel tool and a carbide burr, groove a trench into the bottom of the rudder.
